Carabus arvensis

Carabus arvensis

Habitat: Coastal heath and grassland, and inland semi-natural grassland

Status in Pembrokeshire: Common

Similar Species: Carabus monilis is very similar but it has 3 distinct ridges on the elytra between each anterior-posterior (front-to-back) ridge of raised tuburcules (raised lumps). In C. arvensis, the ridges are much less distinct (see C monilis). C. arvensis is much more common than C. monilis. Carabus granulatus is also similar, but the elytra are much more highly sculptured and the species lacks the bright luster of C. arvensis and C. monilis.
